COP21 PARIS

Paris
is charing and hosting the 21st  Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change from 30th November until tomorrow.

The conference is crucial because the expected outcome is a new international agreement on climate change, applicable to all, to keep global warming below 2°C.

So what's it all about?
The goal is to achieve universal agreement on climate change - signed by all the nations

  • The Arctic sea ice is declining at a rate of 13.3% per decade.
  • Rises in sea level are mainly down to two factors related to global warming: water from melting land ice and the expansion of sea water as it warms.
  • The 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 2000, with the exception of 1998
  • Last year was the warmest on record, and 2015 is shaping up to be even warmer
  • Beijing came to a standstill on the this week due to their first ever red-alert smog warning. Levels were 40 times the exposure limit recommended by the World Health Organisation. Read more about it here
