Bord Bía Welcomed The Swedish Chefs Irish Beef Club

The Chefs' Irish Beef Club (CIBC) is an exclusive international forum which brings together some of Europe’s leading chefs who collectively endorse Irish beef. This year Bord Bía welcomed current member Karl Ljung and Swedish chefs Nils Molinder, Thomas Sjogren and Hakan Thornstrom to Ireland to see first had how Irish beef is cared for by Irish farmers. On their visit to, they witnessed the grass based agriculture that underlines Irish beef production and enjoyed being welcomed into the home of a farming family. These visits have created a special relationship and an understanding of the importance of producing sustainably.

Bord Bía Welcomes New Origin Green Ambassadors to Represent Ireland’s Agrifood Industry

Last week Bord Bia announced ten professionals who have been selected as the new Bord Bia Origin Green Ambassadors to promote the Irish agri-food industry’s sustainability efforts. Chosen from over 200 applications, these Ambassadors (who had to have a minimum of five years’ professional experience) will continue the important role of building awareness of Ireland’s food and drink industry’s sustainability credentials, both in Ireland and internationally as part of Bord Bia’s Origin Green initiative.

The World Steak Challenge
Irish meat has been awarded at The World Steak Challenge

London has hosted the third edition of "The World Steak Challenge", which awards the best steak in the world, as well as gives recognition medals for the best steak producers.This year's event was attended by 119 meat producers from 17 different countries where the big winner was a sirloin from ABP Poland, a subsidiary of ABP Food Group, a company that works mainly in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Ireland received three gold medals, three silver medals and nine bronze medals.

The co-EU funded campaign was described as a celebration of farmhouse cheeses, unique character stemming from methods of production, transparency of the supply chain and the story of the makers behind the cheese. Irish Farmhouse cheeses are made in a variety of styles, from the freshest cheese to the rustic hard cheese that has been matured to perfection.

The most important Irish fishing ground is found in the South East of Ireland where scallops are fished all year round. Irish scallops are available in a large range of live, fresh and frozen form. Each year, total Irish landings are in the region of 2 000 T for exports valued at € 13 million. Did you know? Scallops are one of the only bivalve species that can swim! In the event of danger, the scallop violently closes its shell, forcing water through funnels located near the shell hinge that propels the scallop forwards. .
